Equipment Without the Nonsense

equipment for you swimrun

Walk into any swimrun conversation online and you’ll quickly believe you need:
• a specialist race wetsuit
• carbon paddles
• £200 shoes
• mysterious elastic cords
• gadgets you can’t even name

Let’s clear this up.

For your first Mana Art Erne SWIMRUN, equipment is about safety and comfort — not looking like a catalogue model.

The Truth About Swimrun Gear

Swimrun companies would love you to think this is a technical arms race.

It isn’t.

Most first-timers finish happily with gear they already own or can borrow.

What matters is:
1. staying warm enough
2. moving comfortably
3. being safe in the water
4. keeping things simple

That’s it.

What You ACTUALLY Need

1. A Wetsuit

Not a “swimrun-only” suit.
• Your normal open-water wetsuit is fine
• Many beginners use a standard triathlon suit
• You do NOT need to cut sleeves or legs

If it keeps you warm and you can run in it — it works.

2. Shoes You Trust

Forget the marketing names.

Choose shoes that:
• you’ve already run in
• drain water reasonably
• feel stable on trails

Old comfortable trainers beat brand-new “swimrun shoes” every time.

3. Goggles

The same goggles you use now.

Clear lenses for dull days, tinted for sun — nothing exotic.

4. The Safety Basics

These are about looking after you, not performance:
• bright swim cap
• whistle
• simple tow float (if required in final rules)

Erne SWIMRUN prioritises safety over fashion.

Optional – Not Essential

You’ll hear about:
• paddles
• pull buoys
• elastic cords
• hand-made modifications

Nice extras for experienced athletes.
Absolutely not required for your first race.

Many people finish with none of these.

The Golden Rule

If you need a YouTube tutorial to understand it —
you don’t need it yet.

Swimrun should be:
• simple
• accessible
• focused on experience, not gadgets

Test, Don’t Stress

Before race day:
• do one swim in your suit
• jog a short distance afterwards
• check for rubbing or cold spots

That single session teaches more than hours of gear research.

We’ll Guide You

Every registered athlete receives:
• clear mandatory kit list
• what is optional
• what is unnecessary
• budget-friendly suggestions

No brand pressure.
No upselling.
Just honest advice.

Remember

You’re entering a race — not a fashion show.

The best equipment is the gear that lets you forget about equipment.
